About Fluoride Treatments
There are patients who don't have an ideal oral care routine and this can lead to many tooth decay and oral cavities. To help developing or weakened teeth, a professional fluoride therapy may be performed at DentalWorks - Lexington by our dentists in Lexington, NC to strengthen and remineralize the teeth. Fluoride is a natural mineral that is often added to tap water systems. In addition, it is also in most toothpastes in small quantities to fortify the dental enamel. A professional fluoride treatment at DentalWorks - Lexington uses a safe, but effective dose of fluoride to protect the teeth against cavities. Fluoride treatments can be given in different forms (gel, foam, varnish) with two different types of fluoride. This may include neutral sodium fluoride for patients who have dry mouth and dental restorations or acidulated phosphate fluoride for healthy teeth.
"They are the best, hands down. Dr. Baxley is the best Dentist I've ever been to."- D.H. / Google / Oct 07, 2018
"Dr. Black and his assistant, Karen, were so incredibly amazing at helping me through this process. I have been terrified of the dentist in the past, but my experience with Dr. Black was awesome. I had a full mouth extraction completed today, and I have had very little to no pain since it was done. I have already had multiple friends ask where I went and have passed along Dr. Black's information. Thank you all so much for everything!"- T.R. / Google / Sep 22, 2018

"This is my review for 8/8/2018 visit. I am so grateful to Molly at the front desk for how compassionately she worked with me to schedule an urgent appointment. She could hear my worry and made it her mission to get me in ASAP. She greeted me with a smile and I knew she was the Molly that helped me on the phone. Dr. Black and Kat made the procedure as easy as possible and I’m so pleased with the results. And Rebecca at checkout was just so nIce and pleasant to work with and schedule my next appointment. I LOVE LEXINGTON DENTALWORKS!!"- A.M. / Google / Aug 09, 2018

What to Expect
Fluoride treatments are often given twice a year following the patient's dental cleaning and exam or as often as our dentists recommend. The clean teeth are dried to avoid diluting the strength of the fluoride, then the treatment is administered to the patient as a foam, gel, or varnish that is left on for 1 - 4 minutes. To make fluoride treatments easier, our dentists will often mix in a flavor chosen by the patient. Once the fluoride treatment is complete, patients should be careful to spit all fluoride out of their mouth to prevent negative side effects after the treatment.
To ensure the fluoride fully penetrates the enamel, patients should not drink, eat, or smoke for at least 30 minutes after their fluoride treatment. Swallowing any of the fluoride may cause temporary nausea, but this should not last more than 24 hours. While fluoride can be dangerous in high doses, our dentists take care to give each patient a safe level of fluoride during their procedure at DentalWorks - Lexington.
Fluoride treatments are considered a preventative measure and are usually covered by dental insurance for children who are less than 16 years old twice a year as their teeth are growing. Insurance coverage for an adult who gets a professional fluoride procedure varies, so DentalWorks - Lexington will confirm the patient's policy benefits and decide their personal expenses. For patients who don't have dental insurance coverage, DentalWorks - Lexington offers various payment options and financing plans.
